of the Week:
Ocean Jasper
Its
kind of a standing joke that when confronted with a stone you dont
recognize, its probably either agate or jasper. There are so
many varieties of each that it is nearly impossible to know them all!
This week we will venture further into the Jasper family of stones.
Jasper has been popular since Paleolithic times. It was held in high
regard in Babylon, Egypt and Assyria. It has been worn by kings and
priests. In the Bible we are told that one of the stones in the breastplate
of the High Priest is a jasper. It has been carved in to amulets,
talismans and ornaments. Ancient Egyptian artifacts have been discovered
which are carved from this gem. Shamans wear Jasper as it is believed
that it holds the protection of solar energy and is used during the
ritual of journeying. Throughout the world there are several varieties
of jasper and each is beautiful in its own unique way.
Ocean
Jasper is one of the worlds most unusual jaspers. It is a form of
orbicular jasper and is sometimes referred to as Atlantis Stone.
No other stone contains such a variety of color and pattern--green
in all shades, orange, pink, white, lilac, yellow, brown, wavy lines,
polka dots and sometimes cavities are present which are filled with
sparkling druzy quartz. This is truly a beautiful gem and like other
jaspers is a member of the quartz family. It is strange name for such
an earthy stone and it is believed that its name refers to the wavy
patterns it often displays.
The Metaphysical
properties include:
** Ocean Jasper
is known as a stone of happiness as it creates a positive vibration
by dispelling negativity and encouraging the wearer to count their
blessings.
**It brings clarity while also promoting positive thoughts and actions.
**This gem helps to release stress and bitterness and is said to be
beneficial to those who suffer from depression. Its power lies in
its ability to awaken the individual to self destructive tendencies
or addictive traits which are harmful to ones wellbeing.
**This is a wonderful stone to carry while working in groups as in
social situations its positive vibration is amplified through the
owners energy field to those surrounding the wearer.
**When used in Meditation, it reminds us to treat our body as a temple
and connects us with the universal consciousness.
**Its calming influence soothes and balances the emotions whilst it
concentrates on eliminating outmoded thoughts and beliefs that may
subconsciously be manifesting physical ailments.
**In a healing
capacity it is said to work on the endocrine, glandular and immune
system, and may also be beneficial for circulation and the digestive
system.
Until next week,
